Do you know what’s in your water?
Water is a basic human right, and a naturally occurring resource that we all need to survive. Even in knowing these simple facts, most of us are likely not as informed as we could be when it comes to what we drink daily. We admit- we have so much more to learn ourselves, so let’s journey in this age of enlightenment together! We will start off easy, with some basic information that is pertinent to our well-being. Oh, and, spiritually, water is also necessary for our healthy functioning etheric body too, but we will save that one for another post.
As our beloved angel, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes shared during her trip to Dr. Sebi’s (may his legacy live on) village, the healthiest water is natural water that comes straight from the earth. This water is full of minerals that not only provide us with energy, but also kill bacteria. One of the reasons for the presence of bacteria-fighting minerals in healthy, natural water is the level of “potential of Hydrogen” (pH). To keep our blood cells at their normal pH level, 7.365, we need to be consuming water that has a pH of 9 to 10 (Analyzing & Comparing Brands of Bottled Water, 2008-2017). This is the reason for drinking alkaline water versus tap or regular bottled water. Aside from earth’s natural spring water, alkaline water is another way to ensure that we are building balanced bodies and spirits. Research also reveals that alkaline antioxidant water is the best water to drink, because it provides ionization that boosts the presence of healthy minerals.
So, what is alkaline water and why does it matter?
It is water that has been through a process that creates a less-acidic compound, which increases the mineral content (Alkaline water: Legit health food or high-priced hoax, 2017). Both tap water and bottled water contain chemicals (chlorine, flouride, chloramine, etc.) that are added to get rid of germs, even after the filtration process. In both cases of bottled and tap, the water is stripped of the healthy minerals that our bodies need to properly function. Depending on your place of residency, it may be helpful to look up the municipal water company to be informed on the water regulations and filtration processes. Like the ongoing crisis in Flint, Michigan, many of this country’s residents are left with no choice but to consume chemical-laden water. While mainstream media may not like to say, we understand that this sort of dehumanization is a result of systemic racism. Even outside of the Flint Water Crisis, there are many other cities that unknowingly (and knowingly) consume unhealthy water.
This is more than just making healthy, informed choices. This is also about the protection and fight for a simple human right. This is about the livelihood of generations, present and future.
So, what can I do?
- Make your own alkaline water. There are a few ways to have your own supply of alkaline water at a more affordable cost than just buying it all the time. One way is to purchase an alkaline ionizing pitcher or water filter system that attaches to your sink. Another, more simple way, is to just make it!
A full pitcher of filtered water (use any standard water filter)
One organic lemon
One tablespoon of pink Himalayan salt
Fill your pitcher with filtered water.
Cut your organic lemon into quarters, and add them to the pitcher (Do not squeeze them).
Add the tablespoon of the pink Himalayan salt.
Let the water sit overnight at room temperature.
2. Purchase Natural Spring water and alkaline water. Look around in your local stores, (unfortunately the search may not be as easy for some) in either the bottled water section or the “health foods” sections, if available. There are also health food stores that typically sell refillable jugs of alkaline or spring water.
3. Get involved in local, grassroots, and even some national initiatives, like the Environmental Protection Agency, that promote healthy water research, distribution, and consumption.
We would also love to hear from you about your switch to a more conscious water-drinking lifestyle. Stay tuned for our reviews on water brands and processes that we have experimented with!
